The short version: nothing optional runs until you allow it in the cookie box. With your OK, I count visits with Google Analytics and load talk videos from their providers. No advertising, no marketing pixels. If you write to me, your message reaches my inbox and nowhere else.
Who is responsible
Vineet Talwar, Hans-Böckler-Str. 76, 65199 Wiesbaden, Germany. Email: [email protected].
Hosting
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc., USA). To deliver pages and protect the site against attacks, Cloudflare processes technical data of every request, such as your IP address, browser type and the time of the request. I don’t use this data to identify you. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, my interest in a fast and secure website. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, and its data processing agreement applies.
Cookies and fonts
No advertising or marketing cookies. Fonts and images are served from this site’s own server, so your browser doesn’t contact Google or anyone else to load them.
The cookie box stores your choice in your browser’s local storage (the entry “consent”: your choice and its date), so it doesn’t ask again. This is necessary to respect your choice (§ 25(2) TDDDG). Nothing is sent to me or anyone else. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” in the footer.
Statistics: Google Analytics
Only if you allow “Statistics” in the cookie box, the site loads Google Analytics 4 through the Google tag (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). Analytics counts page views, where visitors come from, device and browser types and rough location, using cookies starting with “_ga” for up to two years. IP addresses are not stored by Google Analytics 4. Advertising features, ad personalisation and data sharing for ads stay switched off (Google Consent Mode: ad_storage, ad_user_data and ad_personalization denied). I use the numbers only to see which pages help visitors. Data may be transferred to Google LLC in the USA, which is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; Google’s data processing terms apply. Legal basis: your consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 25(1) TDDDG. You can withdraw it at any time with “Cookie settings” in the footer; the Analytics cookies are then deleted.
Contact form and the Human Test
If you send the contact form or leave your details in the Human Test, I receive what you enter: your name, email address, message, website and answers. I use it only to reply to you. The message is sent to my inbox by email through Cloudflare Email Service (Cloudflare, Inc., USA, certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, under its data processing agreement). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for enquiries about working together, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. I delete your enquiry when it is no longer needed, unless tax or commercial law requires me to keep it.
You can also email me directly. Then your email provider and mine process the message as usual.
Slides form
After a talk, you can get my slides through the form at /slides/. I receive your email address, and if you enter them, your LinkedIn profile, your website, your answer to “How can I help you?” and your note, together with the name of the talk. The form sends this to my inbox the same way as the contact form, and you get the slide link by email. I use it to send you the slides and to answer what you asked. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. Only if you tick the box do I email you later about the talk’s topic. Legal basis: your consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, which you can withdraw at any time by replying “stop”. I delete your details when they are no longer needed, or when you withdraw your consent, unless tax or commercial law requires me to keep them.
The slides are stored on Google Drive (Google Ireland Limited, Ireland). When you open or download them, Google receives your IP address and browser data, and its privacy policy applies.
Talk videos and slides
Talk pages show a preview image first. The player from VideoPress (Automattic Inc., USA) or Speaker Deck (Speaker Deck, LLC, USA) only loads if you allow “External media” in the cookie box, or confirm it for a single video. From that moment, those providers receive your IP address and may set their own cookies, and data may be transferred to the USA. Legal basis: your consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 25(1) TDDDG. You can withdraw it at any time with “Cookie settings” in the footer; this doesn’t affect loading that already happened.
Links to other sites
Booking a call opens Calendly, and social links open LinkedIn, Instagram and others. Once you are there, their privacy policies apply.
Your rights
You can ask what data I hold about you, and have it corrected, deleted or restricted. You can object to processing and ask for your data in a portable format (Art. 15 to 21 GDPR). Write to the email address above. You can also complain to a data protection authority. Mine is the Hessian Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (HBDI) in Wiesbaden.
